Even those of us who confuse the light at the end of the tunnel with a Web 2.0 hallucination are excited about the possibilities discovered in this course. To me, this class was not about tools, but experiences. When I think of this course, I think how much I have learned about people and their talents. How did I get to know them without required chatters in discussion boards? I have realized that the magic that brought us together was in blogs. I learned more from every peer's post than I would ever do from a textbook chapter. Shared experiences were real, relevant, suggestive, and educational. When I thought I could not bear another week of blogging, I would find myself wanting to read more, learn about others' experiences, get ideas, and revise my own thinking. A connective learning in this course is a key component, and I would like to make it a part of every classroom.
One of the tools that triggered my geeky side was screencasts. I knew the tool was out there, but I did not have time to experiment with it. When the module finally forced me to step out of my comfort zone and give it a try, I was obsessed with it! I simply could not stop making screencasts. My teachers saw screencasts as the most effective strategy for learning about how technology tools work and ways they can be implemented into daily lessons. My screencasts about options and tools in itsLearning helped students become independent learners and be more efficient with their time. It felt like everywhere I looked, there was a place and purpose for a screencast. My next step is to educate teachers about screencasts and help them see how this tool can be utilized in building online courses, flip subjects, or simply provide necessary support with homework assignments.
Learning about podcasting affected my professional and personal life. This course introduced me to podcast subscriptions, and now, I have at least twenty different topics to which I listen to continuously. From pedagogy to home decorating tips, every interest can be satisfied with podcast channels. Next year, I would love to give a try and lead an afterschool podcast club for students. I want them to share their interests and discover other passions by utilizing this tool.
