The Data Analysis and School Improvement course has addressed the needs for personal professional growth. Our school has been implementing the Data Team process for two years, and basic knowledge and skills about it have been developed by our staff. What we need now as a school is strong skills in interpreting student work and building instruction based on assessment data collected continuously throughout the school year. This course provided me with multiple opportunities to practice such skills and prepare to lead the next step in Data Team development in the building.
Every assignment in this course was relevant to my professional practices. As an instructional technology coach, I will be working closely with the instructional coach in the school to lead professional learning and support and monitor the Data Team process on every grade level. Wearing a hat of a data coach does not seem difficult anymore. I feel I have developed a deep understanding of how to collect, analyze, and interpret data in an effective way. The Data Analysis project was extremely useful and relevant to me because it was an opportunity to look at the most current state assessment data, disaggregate it, and define some strengths and weaknesses of our student academic performance in Math. I believe this course helped me build a solid ground for leading Data Team work in our school next year.
