In any profession, assessing the current reality, developing a shared vision, setting up goals, and revising action plans are important steps to begin and sustain a change. Consistent and effective technology integration is not a reality yet in many schools, and changing it requires specific knowledge and skills in instructional technology leadership. This course provided multiple opportunities for us to experience what it is like to lead a change. It helped us develop a critical eye for assessment of our school's vision and plans for instructional technology and ponder ways to improve them.
Online discussions within the modules of this course helped us understand how different schools in the state approach the challenge of effective technology integration in their buildings. We've described many challenges that are the same for all of us and learned about struggles that are different. Collaborative discussions about a variety of scenarios have broadened our perspectives and made us wiser leaders.
During this course, I was able to collaborate on the SWOT analysis with the media specialist in our school. The outcomes of our work provides the core leadership team with a detailed analysis of the current reality in our school. I hope this work will be a starting point for our leadership work next school year. It is important to not only have a shared vision, but to clearly communicate the current state and action plans to the staff.
